Meet Your New Best Friend: The Navy Suit
We’re knee deep into winter. The snow has fallen (look at you east coasters), the temperatures have dropped and all anyone wants is for spring to show its face. Now we might be a few months away from that but that doesn’t mean you can’t start thinking about what you’re going to wear. And no, I’m not talking flip flops. My friends, I am talking a navy suit. The navy suit is the perfect item to invest in because you will get more mileage out of it than a Toyota Corolla. A navy suit can be mixed and matched, dressed up and dressed down, and works in every season.
The navy suit is a little thought about suiting solution for almost any time of year, but time of transition are the perfect time to start seriously appreciating its versatility. While styles more season specific, I’m talking your chino and tweed suits, have their time and place, a navy suit transcends all that. The navy suit is perfect for layering over almost any color. It looks great with a crisp white, but my personal favorite is when it’s layered over dark patterns like tartans or florals. It really makes the hue stand out, and dark tones are perfect for fall and winter. Plus, you can add the warmth of winter colors through your tie and pocket square; colors with rich tones like burgundy. Even try punching it up with fun winter patterns like checks, herringbones, and houndstooth. Then in the summer the navy suit makes a great base for mixing in bright florals and stripes. Navy, like black, can literally work with any pattern, print or color.
The navy suit continues to flex its style muscles with regards to footwear as well. It lends itself well to being mixed with any and all tones of brown. Throw on a caramel wingtip, a mushroom suede Chelsea boot, or an oxblood double monk strap and you can rest assured knowing your navy suit won’t even break a sweat. The real testament to its versatility lies in the ease at which you are able to mix in a pair of black or grey shoes. Black with navy has become a definite style statement so rocking a pair of black wingtips with your navy blue suit will provide an elegant and stylish look.
So now that you’re ready to say “Sayonara” to winter and “Hey there pretty thing” to spring, make sure your closet’s got a navy suit ready to carry you into all seasons in the most stylish way possible.
