ZZ Top Gets Beard Insurance

ZZ Top guitarist and vocalist Billy Gibbons just took out an insurance policy on… his beard?

Business Insurance recently reported that Gibbons has insured his beard with Lloyd’s of London, an organization famous for insuring all things weird and wonderful, however he did not divulge how much his majestic and famous face sweater was actually insured for.

But Gibbons is far from the first person to insure his facial hair. According to the Business Insider article, “former Aussie cricketer Merv Hughes insured his splendid mustache at Lloyd’s.”

Think that’s wild? The article goes on to explain that before beard and mustache clubs started popping up in such high volume, there were “40 members of a ‘whiskers club’ in Derbyshire, England, [that] insured their beards against fire and theft, according to Lloyd’s website.”
